Bouddi Society eBooks Currently Available
Bouddi Stories, Bouddi Bios, Bouddi Artists, was a collection of stories produced on a CD-Rom as an outcome of the Bouddi History Project, initiated by David Dufty and overseen by the Bouddi Society. The launch of the project occurred in May 2007. On that day many people came to Wagstaffe Hall with photographs to be scanned on the day and stories to share. The word spread and interest in the project became widespread.
The content of the CD-ROM is seen to be the most comprehensive history of the area and therefore the need to preserve it is mandatory. CD-ROMS are now a thing of the past, so it only makes sense to turn the stories into eBooks and the Bouddi Society has undertaken the project. Time was needed to update and re-format the text and photos.
In 2009, short biographies of local artists came together as Bouddi Artists on the CD-ROM: stories written and collated by Helen Robinson and David Dufty. In 2021, more stories were added and Bouddi Artists – A History became the first eBook to be placed on the website.
And Bouddi Stories? Volume 1 - Early Times, Volume 2 - Growth and Volume 3 – Places and People are now eBooks here on the website. The first volume of seven stories includes topics such as Natural History, First People, European Settlers and Their Land and Commerce and Industry. The second volume contains histories of Pretty Beach School and Killcare Surf Club as well as stories about fishing, shipwrecks, real estate and World War 11. The third volume, Bouddi Stories – Places and People, brings us stories about Bouddi National Park, maritime stories of Brisbane Water, the history of Rileys Bay and more places. The stories of the ‘People’ tell us about the various interest groups, associations and clubs found on the peninsula such as the Fire Brigade, the Garden Club, the Bridge Club and more.
Bouddi Bios, the stories of individuals and families has now been added to complete the ‘trilogy’. The stories are about people making this place their home or holiday destination - very enjoyable accounts of people, time and place.
The Forewords found in each volume will tell you more. Appreciation is extended to Phil Donnelly and Helen Menzies for their wise words and to three valuable contributors to the History Project, Beverley Runcie, Helen Monks and Deb Holloman,
The aim is to honour our past, pay homage to the pioneers, those who came before us so we can develop a sense of heritage, reflect on human values and be able to appreciate what life was like in earlier times and the growth and community spirit that followed.
The collection reflects the interest, the fact-finding and the knowledge gained and imparted by the historians amongst us, those with the skills to research and write factual history; other stories are based on oral history: information gathered from people with knowledge of the past or who were there to experience it.
The Bouddi Society hopes by presenting these stories of the past as a series of eBooks it can make our history lively and informative to many people, so that when we think about the past it can be meaningful in our busy modern lives. We believe the eBooks to be authentic, interesting and meaningful and very entertaining.
