Bouddi History Project Areas Bouddi Stories
This is a research, archiving and publication sub-project centring on particular historical topics written by community members. Individuals or teams are invited to choose a topic, gather resources on that topic, research it through library resources, the internet and oral sources and then write an illustrated chapter on this topic following overall guidelines by the editors. This is preferably done in digital form, eg. as a Microsoft Word document, but writers can write it by hand and we will provide someone to put it on the computer. We hope to publish these firstly in full detail as low cost CD-ROMs. Some printed copies can then be made for libraries and those without computers, or those happy to pay for a printed edition done by a local copying firm. Colour can be included in photos, design, etc. Copies will be sent to Gosford City Library and to State and National Libraries as required for all published books.
Material from these rich resources can then be selected to create a well illustrated, professional standard, coffee table, publication, hopefully supported by cultural grants, for sale by the Bouddi Society, local shops and interested booksellers. Bouddi Bios
Life Stories, or stories from the life of local residents, including long term locals, those who lived or stayed here earlier or later in life, people who had interesting or different lives, people who made a contribution to their community in varied ways, biographies by others and autobiographies by people willing to tell their story in their own words. Couples can be done together by a third person or written by the couple as in "The Two of Us" in the weekend Sydney Morning Herald. A variety of styles and formats is possible and bios can deal with a section of life and need not attempt any sort of lifetime coverage. All should be illustrated with photos and lengthy enough (two to four typed pages and more for couples) to get some sense of their personalities and life events. Poems, photos of multiarts works, owner builder houses, etc. could be included. Publication arrangements would be as above with Bouddi Stories. Be in it! Your story and his and her stories are worth recording for posterity and are a vital part of Bouddi Peninsula Social History. Bouddi Multi-Media
Photographic collection. Gathering, documenting and indexing all available photos and colour slides from home collections, gaining permission, making CD-ROMs and passing them on to Gosford Library. Adding contemporary photos to the collection as events take place. Prints could perhaps be made of some photos on request from local people at cost price with attention to copyright ownership.
Audio/visual material. Further gathering, indexing and making recorded interview material available to researchers. Creating CD???s and audio-cassettes containing material for playing at home or using for excursions in the community. Downloading from our website as an MP3 file for i-Pods and other players is another possibility.
Films. Creating DVDs which can be used in homes, classrooms, and public gatherings with varied formats, eg. a chronological history, a trip to selected places in the area with commentary by local people as was done on the History Making Day, dramatised stories, etc. Eg: Bouddi Places and People. A film being developed by David and Helen Dufty drawing on the History Makers Day and visits to selected sites in company with local informants. It will be made available as a 60 minute DVD at low cost.
Web. The Bouddi Society web site will play a major role in varied ways.
Other. These include working with the Gosford City Council to have historical plaques or interpretation boards at significant places around the area, creating historical murals, sculptures, etc.
